Urban Beekeeping is Trending in Columbus

For Jodi Miller, an interest in beekeeping coincided with her desire to grow food. “I want a farm, but I don’t want to leave the city,” says the Olde Towne East resident and photographer. (Miller worked at Columbus Monthly and still shoots the occasional freelance assignment for the magazine.) “So I was looking for something I could do right where I am. I read a book called ‘Eat the City’ by Robin Shulman, and the first chapter is about the beekeepers of New York. And I was like, ‘If they can do it there, why can’t I do it here?’ ”

Hot Chicken Takeover will return to OTE, and other neighborhoods!

Recently Hot Chicken Takeover got some attention for announcing their intent to pop from neighborhood to neighborhood over the course of Summer 2015.  But they’re still planning to spend time in OTE.

Olde Towne East re-emerges as ‘a cool place to be’

““It’s not been gentrified,” said Becky Karppalawho has owned a home in Olde Towne with her husband, Sam, for almost a decade. “It’s diverse, and I hope it stays that way.”

“An annual community yard sale is a big neighborhood event, and the most popular weekend destination is a chicken spot (Hot Chicken Takeover) that operates out of the neighborhood co-op (Near East Side Cooperative Market).”

Soul Food Junkies

This Saturday at the King Arts Complex from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm, the Near East Side Cooperative Market will be in attendance at the showing of Soul Food Junkies, a must-see film about family, food and tradition.

We will be sharing the panel with several other local businesses discussing the film and it’s relevance to our own community.  The film is FREE to view and you’ll also be able to sample some amazing food!

Farmer’s Market at Care Point East Medical Center

The Near East Side Farmer’s Market begins this Tuesday!

Every first Tuesday at Care Point East Medical Center (543 Taylor Avenue, 43203), a farmer’s market will be held in the parking lot from 11am – 2pm.  The farmer’s market will go on July 2nd through October 1st.
